Ornate Lidded Ceramic Pot
A cream-colored ceramic pot features a rounded body with two small, loop handles and a matching domed lid topped with a spherical finial. The pot and lid are decorated with an intricate pattern of sky blue and gold, including a broad band of blue with golden outlines and delicate blue floral motifs below.
Porcelain, a common material for such pots, was first developed in China during the Tang dynasty, around 618–907 AD, centuries before it was successfully reverse-engineered in Europe. Early European sugar bowls were often crafted from precious metals or finely decorated porcelain, reflecting the luxury status of sugar until the 19th century.
